Tips and Resources for New Moms

Date: 10/24/24

Adjusting to life with a newborn can be stressful but also rewarding. Although you are mostly focused on taking care of your baby, it is just as important to take special care of yourself after giving birth.

Here are a few tips we’ve gathered from the U.S. Office of Women’s Health website to help you transition into life as a new mom:

1.  Get rest! Try to lay down or sleep while your baby sleeps.

2.  Follow your doctor’s instruction about how much physical activity you can do over the first few weeks, like climbing stairs or walking for long periods.

3.  Talk with your doctor about what to expect physically after birth. Your body has been through a lot, and some pain and swelling are normal.

4. Emotional changes are normal after childbirth. If you are feeling extremely overwhelmed or depressed for more than two weeks, you may be experiencing postpartum depression. Postpartum depression is a mental health condition that can affect your daily life. Talk to your doctor immediately if you think you are experiencing postpartum depression.

5. Most importantly, don’t be afraid to ask for help from your family and friends when you need it.
