Swim Safety Basics
Date: 06/28/24
Whether it’s in a pool, lake or at the beach, swimming is a great way to beat the Texas heat. Swimming is an important skill for children to learn, not just for fun summer activities, but for their safety.
Here are a few tips we’ve gathered to help your child swim safely this summer.
- Sign your child up for swim lessons.
- Only swim where lifeguards are available.
- Never leave your child unattended in the water.
- Teach your child that they should ask for permission before going swimming.
- Swim with U.S. Coast Guard approved life jackets.
The American Red Cross website offers information about where to find life jackets and swim classes for your child, as well as other water safety courses and trainings on pool and open water safety.
