Podimetrics SmartMat™ Pilot to Begin August 1, 2023
Date: 08/01/23
Effective August 1, 2023, Superior HealthPlan will begin a new collaboration with Podimetrics, Inc. (Podimetrics), an independent virtual care management company, to introduce the Podimetrics SmartMat™ to your Superior STAR+PLUS eligible diabetic patients with a history of a diabetic foot ulcer.
The partnership between Superior and Podimetrics SmartMat™ Program will ensure that STAR+PLUS members and their families receive timely, professional service and quality products to help meet their needs.
There is no cost to you or the eligible member to participate in the pilot. Podimetrics will contact providers by phone and fax beginning August 1, 2023. Providers will receive all program information directly from a Podimetrics Provider Engagement Representative.
Podimetrics SmartMat™ Program
The Podimetrics SmartMat is part of the Podimetrics Remote Temperature Monitoring System (RTM System), a medical device. The SmartMat is an in-home floor mat that takes thermal scans of the plantar surface of the feet. It connects wirelessly (no cell phone or internet is required) to the Podimetrics server. The Podimetrics RTM System leverages thermometry and uses remote monitoring of plantar foot temperature for signs of inflammation. Using remote temperature monitoring, Podimetrics is able to detect “hot spots” up to 5 weeks before they would present visually. This allows for intervention before a diabetic foot ulcer develops. Scans are transmitted to and monitored by Podimetrics. Clinicians are alerted when preventive clinical action is needed.
SmartMat
- Podimetrics offers a SmartMat and Care Support Solution.
- Utilizes thermometry to help detect and identify signs of inflammation which may be early manifestation of diabetic foot ulcers prior to a wound appearing.
- Members are encouraged to use the mat daily – it only takes them 20 seconds a day.
Care Support Solution
- Once Podimetrics identifies signs of inflammation, the member is assessed by Podimetrics’ Care Support team, and they virtually begin offloading protocols.
- If inflammation persists and clinical intervention is recommended, Podimetrics will reach out to the provider, as well as request that the member be seen in person.
If you participate in the program, you are required to write a prescription for your eligible patients to receive the SmartMat. Details on this process will also be provided by Podimetrics.
