Effective October 1, 2022, Superior HealthPlan’s preferred blood glucose meter and test strips will be OneTouch products. These diabetes testing products will be available to Superior HealthPlan Medicaid (STAR, STAR Health, STAR Kids, STAR+PLUS), and CHIP members at no cost. A letter has been sent to members notifying them of this switch, with information on how to receive new diabetes testing products.

This change will go into effect October 1, 2022.
How do members get new, preferred blood glucose meters and test strips?
In order for members to receive the preferred blood glucose meter and test strips at no cost, they must order through one of the following options:
- Order online or by phone.
- Notes: Superior members were mailed an instructional brochure on how to order.
- Obtain through their local pharmacy.
Providers will need to write a prescription for one of the OneTouch products listed below. Prescribers will also need to ensure the member takes the prescription to a drug store or pharmacy in Superior’s network.
What are the benefits for members utilizing OneTouch meters?
OneTouch Meters are designed to make testing easy and help members manage their diabetes. The meter has capabilities to:
- Sync data wirelessly with the OneTouch Reveal® App.
- Show when your blood sugar numbers are in or out of range.
- Personalized guidance, insight, and encouragement to help manage diabetes.

What if the pharmacy does not have the OneTouch Verio Blood Glucose Meters or Test Strips in stock?
If the pharmacy does not have the preferred blood glucose meters or test strips in stock, they can order the blood glucose meters/test strips or redirect the member to another in-network pharmacy.
Are there any exceptions to using preferred OneTouch Verio Blood Glucose Meters and Test Strips?
Non-preferred blood glucose test strips will require prior authorization after October 1, 2022.
STAR Kids and STAR+PLUS members with Intellectual and Development Disabilities (IDD) that are currently in their Continuity of Care (COC) phase, will be able to continue to receive non-preferred test strips until they complete their individual COC phase.
Members utilizing a talking blood glucose meter that requires the use of a unique test strip will be able to continue to receive their current test strips and will not be required to switch to a OneTouch product.
