Medicare Telehealth Coverage

Date: 10/24/25

Providers may be receiving questions about Medicare telehealth coverage due to the government shutdown that began on October 1, 2025. Please use the information below to support consistent communication with members.

There is no disruption to telehealth coverage for our Medicare members or providers. While federal flexibilities for traditional Medicare expired on September 30, 2025, our Wellcare, Wellcare By Allwell, and Wellcare By Superior HealthPlan Medicare plans continue to offer telehealth services as additional benefits for both 2025 and 2026.

Wellcare anticipated the potential impact of the expiration and proactively ensured continuity of care. Our Medicare plans were filed with telehealth benefits aligned to the flexibilities previously in place, allowing us to maintain coverage even as traditional Medicare reverts to prior rules.

What This Means for Providers

  • Continue offering and billing for telehealth visits as usual.
  • There is no disruption to payments or coverage.

What This Means for Members

  • Members should continue attending telehealth appointments.
  • Their plan coverage remains unchanged.

While other health plans may revert to previous telehealth rules, our members will continue to receive the same telehealth benefits they’ve had throughout 2025 and into 2026.
