Emergency Broadband Benefits
Date: 09/24/21
COVID-19 has made having the internet more important than ever for everything from virtual schooling to telehealth visits. The Emergency Broadband Benefit was created to help everyone get internet access and may help you or your family pay for internet services.
What is the Emergency Broadband Benefit?
The Emergency Broadband Benefit gives a discount on broadband internet services for eligible households. Households can receive discounts up to $50 per month for broadband services. Households on tribal land can receive discounts up to $75 per month.* Plus, each household can receive a one-time discount of up to $100 for a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet.
The program does not have a set end date. It will keep going until all funds are used or six months after the Department of Health and Human Services declares the pandemic over.
Are you eligible for Emergency Broadband Benefits?
Households need to meet one of the following to qualify:
- Qualify for SNAP, Medicaid, or the Lifeline program;
- Receive benefits under the free and reduced-price school lunch program or the school breakfast program (or have received during the previous school year);
- Received a Federal Pell Grant this year;
- Experienced a substantial loss of income since Feb. 29, 2020 and the household had a total income below $99,000 for single filers or $198,000 for joint filers in 2020; or
- Qualify for a participating providers' existing low-income or COVID-19 program.
How do you apply?
Eligible households can apply a few different ways:
- Call your local broadband provider of choice to see if they are participating in the Emergency Broadband Benefit and if you might be eligible;
- Go to GetEmergencyBroadband.org to apply online directly and to find participating providers near you; or
- Call 833-511-0311 for a mail-in application, and return it along with copies of documents showing proof of eligibility to:

Even if you already receive a discount through another program, you can combine these discounts with the Emergency Broadband Benefit. Contact your local broadband provider to understand all benefits that might be available to you.
