COVID-19 Test Kit and Vaccine Coverage Update
Date: 03/10/25
Starting April 7, 2025, the number of COVID-19 test kits available to Texas Medicaid and CHIP members will be reduced. These kits do not require prior authorization from a provider. Additionally, only some members will be able to receive vaccines at a pharmacy.
See below for full details:
- Currently, Medicaid and CHIP members can receive 4 at-home COVID-19 tests and an additional 4 at-home COVID-19 tests with prior authorization from a provider for a total of 8 per month.
- Starting April 7, Texas Medicaid is reducing the quantity of at-home COVID test kits available per member to 4 per month. These test kits can be obtained without a prior authorization. This change is due to the expiration of the Federal American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA).
- Additionally, COVID-19 vaccines obtained at a pharmacy will now be only covered for members 19 years and older. Any members 18 years and younger will need to obtain their COVID-19 vaccine through the Vaccine for Children (VFC) Program.
