Coping with Stress During the Holidays

During the holidays, stress can have a big impact on our lives. School, work and family are many factors that can cause stress. COVID-19 has also changed how the holidays may look for gatherings which can more stress for you or your family. Here are some ways you can cope with stress this holiday season:

  • Stay organized.
  • Keep track of medical appointments and prescriptions.
  • Reach out to family members, loved ones and friends for support.
  • Take some responsibilities off your plate – it is okay to say no.
  • Schedule time for self-care.
  • Reach out to a trusted therapist.
  • Stick to a budget by making homemade gifts or doing research before buying.

Practicing healthy habits can also help with stress. Here are a few things you can do:

  • Meal prep for the week to stay consistent on meals.
  • Try deep-breathing exercises, yoga or other forms of meditation.
  • Fall asleep at the same time every night to prevent daytime drowsiness.

It is important to see the physical, mental and emotional signs of stress. Some symptoms include anxiety or increased irritability, overeating and difficulty sleeping.
